Macho
©Lydia Lord
You might not call me macho
You might not think I'm tough
You might conclude my attitude's
Not arrogant enough
You might decide to diss me
For my looks or for my size
And think no girls would kiss me
But you might be surprised
Wasn't built to be a jock
Couldn't walk the macho walk
How could I be strong and successful?
Found myself a place in track
Way ahead of all the pack
And made my senior year a lot less stressful
Used to give my town a treat
Doin' handstands in the street
I was strong and not afraid to show it
Workin' in the hardware store
Built my muscles even more
And I was glad to let the big guys know it
Buckin' bales on the farm
Put some muscles in my arm
Got to test 'em out in the service
I was one tough sergeant then
Laid the law down for my men
But women made me shy and scared and nervous
So maybe I'm not macho
I'm prob'ly not a stud
At dominating women
I've always been a dud
But I've been learning lessons
Ever since my life began
And one way or another
I learned to be a man!
