Fred recently retired as the principal of Irving Elementary School, after a 20-year career as a teacher, counselor and school administrator. His dedication to kids is one of the reasons he joined Encore. (He also loves to perform and hopes to grow!)

In the early 60's, he played baritone ukulele and sang "hippie songs" on the streets of Santa Barbara. Military service boosted his confidence, and he decided to return to school and become a teacher.

He notes that support from his wife Gretchen was essential to his success: "none of the good stuff would have happened without her." They have two grown daughters and one grandchild.
