Lydia:
You gotta have art
To feed your soul
You gotta have art if you wanna be whole

All:
You gotta have art

Eliza:
You gotta have art, but what does that mean?
Could it just be part of the old routine?
Does it have to be a painting or a play or a song?
Have I been an artist all along.

Ross:
Now when I was singin’ I felt sublime
But I thought school was a waste of time
I cut a lotta classes and there’s no doubt
If it hadn’t been for choir I’d’a dropped right out

Lois:
Well, art got me through school, I guess
I could dance and draw and find success
A tango contest, I recall,
Was the only time I got picked at all

Mac:
Bein’ a singer was my lifelong dream
Till a voice coach stomped on my self-esteem
I turned to dance, and I learned to teach
And the dream’s no longer out of reach

Emil:
I couldn’t play sports, not big enough
And I wasn’t any good at that macho stuff
But I found music, and I sang, and I played it
And as a person, that’s the way I made it

Linda:
My folks always know I’d be a musician
And I didn’t argue with their position
I studied violin, and I got the job done
But playin’ fiddle is a lot more fun

Norm:
When I was a kid, my fantasy was
To have a beautiful life, and then applause
I found the stage, and I taught kids, too
So art, for me, made my dream come true

Ron:
I did a little singin’ years ago
But I never thought I could fit in a show
The past two years it’s been real sweet
To sing and share and feel complete

Helen:
I was told that I couldn't do art
So I kept it private, in my heart
But I gotta tell ya, with Encore, wow!
It’s easy gettin’ up in the morning now

Wayland:
I’ve lived a long time, and it’s my belief
That my art’s helped me to get through grief
Loneliness tends to let me be
When I’m part of something bigger than me

Eliza:
Art is a way to connect and relate
And art helps people communicate
Art is a tool to get your life on track
And art helps people give something back

Eliza and Lydia:
Art gives meaning to the lives we make
And the heart of the arts will never break
Art makes the options greater by far.

All:
Art is the core of who we are
You gotta have art
