Getting Along

Religion and politics make some people fight
They may think there's only one way to be right
But when we got married some years ago
We found that it ain't necessarily so
For I am a Democrat
And I'm a Republican
A Methodist
A Catholic
A worker
A boss
The distance between us is wide at times
But we found a way of reaching across

Yes, we love each other along with all that
Respecting our differences, we can see
We're each OK in our own special way
And though we may disagree
You need to be true to you
I need to be true to me

At times when the rest of us disagree too
We might learn a lesson from lookin' at you
If I think I'm right, you don't have to be wrong
Let's look for some new ways of getting along
Now I prefer cats
I think dogs are more fun
Let's get rid of weapons
Don't mess with my gun
The rainbow needs all of its colors, you know
We're all on the planet to learn and grow
And we can love each other along with all that
Respecting our differences, we can see
We're each OK in our own special way
And though we may disagree
